Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged residents to take ownership of road infrastructure in their communities, stressing that protecting and maintaining public projects is vital to ensuring their durability and long-term benefit.

The governor made the appeal in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday while inaugurating the newly completed Bovas–Spotless Road and Palace–Oke-Age–Idolofin Road as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

Represented by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing quality infrastructure across the state to improve living standards and promote sustainable development.

He, however, noted that the success and longevity of such projects depend largely on the collective responsibility of citizens.

“I urge all road users and residents to maintain and preserve these roads. They are investments in our collective future, and we all have a role to play in sustaining them,” he said.

Governor Oyebanji cautioned against activities that could damage the newly completed roads, such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels and unauthorized excavation along road shoulders.

He emphasized that a functional road network is not merely a passage for vehicles but a lifeline that connects communities, enhances trade, improves security, and contributes to overall social and economic growth.

According to him, the completion of the Palace–Oke-Age–Idolofin and Bovas–Spotless township roads would help decongest traffic, reduce travel time, and open up new economic opportunities for residents and local businesses.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, the governor said: “We will not relent in our efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of Ekiti State. I seek your continued cooperation, as the development of our state is a shared responsibility.”

Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo, described the projects as milestones in the government’s drive to enhance accessibility and improve the aesthetics of the state capital. He noted that the roads had been in deplorable condition for years before their rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Adebayo said the Oyebanji administration envisioned a modern road network capable of easing traffic flow, improving mobility, and uplifting the quality of life for residents.

He commended the governor for his commitment to infrastructure renewal and urged residents to support maintenance efforts by refraining from harmful practices such as dumping waste in drainages or erecting unauthorized speed bumps.

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Habitat Adubiaro, Head of Service Folakemi Olomojobi, Chief of Staff Niyi Adebayo, members of the House of Assembly, and other top government officials.
