Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has commended the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for its sustained advocacy for the enforcement of the rights and dignity of all persons.

CP Kankarofi gave the commendation while addressing officials of the NHRC who paid him a courtesy visit as part of activities to mark the 2025 International Human Rights Day.

While receiving the delegation, CP Kankarofi described the Commission’s efforts as timely, purposeful, and essential to strengthening the broader human rights framework in Kogi State.

He applauded the NHRC for its consistent advocacy and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all persons in line with constitutional and professional standards.

The Commissioner urged the Commission to continue serving as the “eyes and ears” of the Command by carrying out impromptu visits to police formations, detention facilities, and other areas of interest.

He also encouraged the NHRC to promptly draw the Command’s attention to any identified gaps or concerns relating to human rights compliance, noting that such constructive oversight would help improve service delivery and reinforce accountability.

CP Kankarofi further emphasized the importance of strong synergy between the Police and the National Human Rights Commission, stressing that positive outcomes would result from a transparent, cooperative, and sustained working relationship aimed at promoting justice, fairness, and the protection of fundamental rights across the state.

In his response, the NHRC State Coordinator in Kogi State, Barrister Nuhu Mohammed, commended the Commissioner for the notable achievements recorded within the short period of his assumption of office.

He affirmed the Commission’s readiness to work closely with the Command, as encouraged by the CP. He expressed confidence that the strengthened partnership would significantly improve human rights standards and community trust.

The engagement reflects a renewed commitment to cooperation, accountability, and shared responsibility in advancing the protection of human rights and ensuring the safety of residents of Kogi State.
