President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate employment of 200 exceptional former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service and awarded them N250,000 each in recognition of their outstanding performance during the 2020–2023 service years.
The President, represented by Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, announced at the NYSC Honours Award Ceremony held in Abuja.
As part of the recognition package, President Tinubu also ordered the employment of 10 physically challenged ex-corps members who sustained injuries while serving the nation.
All honorees will additionally receive scholarships to pursue postgraduate studies in Nigerian universities.
“These honorees have demonstrated discipline, patriotism, and integrity,”
“Their employment process will commence immediately,” Tinubu said.
Among the top male awardees are Nunaya Polycarp, Okpogbo Alvin, Dr. Ugwa Obinna, and Rabiu Quadri. The female awardees include Akase Pati and Igwe Anne.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended the President’s unwavering support for youth empowerment.
He cited the recent increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000 as part of broader initiatives to promote innovation, leadership, and economic inclusion among young Nigerians.
NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, praised the immense contributions of corps members to national development, especially in rural health, education, voter awareness, and technology.
He noted that over 6,000 medical corps members delivered free healthcare services to more than 4 million Nigerians in underserved communities in 2025 alone.
Additionally, over 250,000 corps members receive training annually in entrepreneurship and digital skills under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program.
Nafiu also expressed optimism about the passage of the NYSC Trust Fund Bill, which he said would significantly improve post-service opportunities for corps members.
“You may have hung your khakis, but you now carry the pride and gratitude of a nation that sees your value,” he told the honorees.
