The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged to collaborate with other security agencies, local stakeholders, and residents to address the growing security challenges in Sokoto State.
The State Commandant, Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, declared during a Civil Defence Day event held in Sokoto on Friday.
In his address, Alfadarai emphasized the Corps’ ongoing collaboration with key security agencies to ensure enhanced security measures across the state.
He reaffirmed the commitment to working closely with all relevant partners to tackle emerging threats.
“One of the primary areas of focus for the NSCDC is the protection of schools and other critical national and state institutions.
“Ensuring public safety and security remains a top priority for the corps.
“The NSCDC is also focused on securing schools from violent attacks and other forms of threats, especially in vulnerable areas. Efforts are underway to fortify educational institutions against such risks.
“Another significant area of concern for the NSCDC is the protection of agricultural infrastructure, agro-allied investments, and business ventures crucial to the state’s economy.
“This will play a vital role in safeguarding food security.”
Alfadarai assured that the NSCDC is working relentlessly to reverse the prevailing security trends in Sokoto.
He expressed optimism about the future of the state’s security situation.
The NSCDC Commandant further mentioned the successful rescue of at least 50 individuals who had been held captive, showcasing the corps’ commitment to saving lives in the region.
In a move to address illegal mining activities, the NSCDC in Sokoto has introduced a team of mining marshals. These officers are specially trained to oversee and combat illegal mining operations, which have been a growing concern in the state.
The mining marshals will work in close partnership with the state government to ensure security in mining areas and to serve as NSCDC security liaisons for mining-related activities.
Alfadarai noted that these marshals are part of a broader strategy to improve internal security management and support the efforts of the military and other paramilitary agencies.
“The NSCDC’s ongoing efforts align with its overarching mandate to assist in managing internal security challenges. These initiatives aim to restore order and stability across Sokoto State, benefitting residents, businesses, and critical institutions alike.
“The commitment to collaboration with local and state stakeholders and other security agencies is a critical step toward addressing the complex security issues facing Sokoto State.
“The corps remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens,” he declared.
