A member of the civic community in Kano, Comrade Dr. Abdussalam Muhammad Kani, has welcomed the recent withdrawal and clarification issued by the Kano Patriotic Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Forum (KPCF), describing the development as a positive step toward strengthening harmony and responsible civic engagement in the state.
In a measured response on the publication by Stallion Times on Saturday, Dr. Kani said he had carefully read and noted the Forum’s public statement distancing itself from earlier allegations reportedly credited against him.
He acknowledged the clarification and commended the Coalition for what he described as a decision taken in the “true spirit of brotherhood, comradeship, and responsible civic engagement.”
He particularly praised the KPCF’s emphasis on tolerance, inclusiveness, respect for diversity, and its appeal for civility and restraint in civic and political activities.
According to Dr. Kani, such values form the foundation of credible civil society advocacy and are essential for sustaining democratic maturity in Kano State.
He, however, explained that his earlier response to the matter was issued before the Forum’s withdrawal and clarification became public.
He said his reaction was based on the initial reports and narratives available at the time, expressing confidence that this context would be fairly understood.
Dr. Kani also welcomed the Forum’s reassurance that it does not support discrimination, intimidation, or the demeaning of any individual or group, including persons with disabilities.
He noted that such a position aligns with constitutional provisions, moral responsibility, and the shared values of equity and human dignity.
While appreciating the clarification, he advised that greater care should be taken in verifying facts before issuing public statements, particularly on sensitive matters capable of generating misunderstanding or tension.
He stressed that accuracy, balance, and fairness remain essential obligations for associations operating within the civic and democratic space.
The civic advocate further reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful dialogue, principled engagement, and constructive partnership with government and other stakeholders in the pursuit of justice and inclusion through lawful means.
He then thanked the KPCF for its clarification and renewed call for calm, urging all parties to remain guided by balance, fairness, and a shared commitment to the public good.
