Kano State Government has been honoured with the Award of Excellence by the National Examinations Council, NECO, for emerging as the Second Best Outstanding State in the sponsorship and registration of a high volume of candidates for the Senior School Certificate Examination for two consecutive academic years, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.
The award was presented on Thursday, during the grand finale of NECO’s 25th Anniversary Celebration Program held at the International Conference Center, Abuja.
The event brought together education stakeholders, policymakers, and dignitaries from across Nigeria to mark a quarter-century of NECO’s contribution to credible examinations and educational advancement.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Kano State Government, the Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haryna Abubakar Makoda, said the recognition highlights Kano State’s sustained investment in expanding and prioritizing access and quality secondary education and its commitment to ensuring that no eligible student is left behind due to financial constraints.
Commissioner Makoda said the award is dedicated to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the teachers, students, and education officials whose commitment led to the achievement.
“This award is a result of hard work and perseverance, the state government shown, and its resolve to prioritize education as the foundation for sustainable development in Kano society.
For two consecutive years, Kano states have mobilized resources to sponsor and register thousands of children for NECO examinations, and the state will not relent,” the Commissioner stated.
He further noted that the recognition by NECO aligns with the state’s broader education reform agenda under Governor Yusif’s state education emergency recovery plan and other initiatives aimed at improving learning outcomes, infrastructure, and access, particularly for adolescent girls and youth across the state.
The commissioner extends the state government’s appreciation to NECO for the recognition and reaffirms the state’s commitment to maintaining high standards in candidate sponsorship, registration, and integrity, abiding by all examination ethics governing conduct of NECO examinations.
