Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) services and strengthening family planning financing through enhanced stakeholder collaboration, public engagement, and strategic information dissemination.

The commitment was reiterated during a roundtable discussion on MNCH and Family Planning Financing organized by the Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget in collaboration with the Kano State-led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM), held at the ministry’s conference hall on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, Abdul Ajumawa, called for stronger coordination among key stakeholders in supporting MNCH financing initiatives across the state.

Ajumawa noted that the Kano State Government had continued to invest billions of naira in maternal, newborn, and child health programs as well as family planning initiatives, but lamented that many residents remained unaware of the interventions due to inadequate dissemination of information.

He stressed the importance of involving the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in health sector programs to ensure that government investments and interventions are effectively communicated to the public.

According to him, effective information management and public sensitization are critical to promoting community participation, improving healthcare outcomes, and strengthening public confidence in government programs.

He also commended KanSLAM for initiating the engagement, describing the roundtable as a vital platform for identifying solutions to challenges affecting healthcare financing and service delivery.

In her remarks, the Family Planning Coordinator, Mansura Yahaya Haruna, expressed appreciation for the timely discussion and assured participants that the gaps and challenges identified during the meeting would be addressed to improve service delivery across the state.

Also speaking, the Co-Chair of KanSLAM, Maimuna Yakubu Muhd, emphasized that effective coordination remained essential to achieving sustainable success in the implementation of MNCH and family planning programs.

She called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, development partners, civil society organizations, media stakeholders, and community groups to achieve improved healthcare outcomes.

The roundtable brought together representatives of government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, media organizations, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable financing strategies and collaborative approaches toward improving healthcare delivery in Kano State.

The meeting ended with renewed commitments from stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, accountability and advocacy efforts aimed at advancing maternal and child healthcare services as well as family planning initiatives across the state.
