In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for enhanced security nationwide, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered intensified security operations across the state to ensure a safe, peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration.

A statement on Monday by the Cmmand’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the directive was issued during a strategic meeting held by the Commissioner of Police with Operational Commanders, including Heads of Departments (HODs), Area, Squadron and Tactical Commanders, as well as Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).

At the meeting, CP Bakori emphasized the need for intensified patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations and confidence-building engagements throughout the festive period.

According to the statement, adequate security arrangements have been put in place in collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the celebrations.

The Commissioner of Police directed all operational commanders to ensure adequate security at worship centres and recreational facilities, round-the-clock visibility patrols, effective traffic control to guarantee smooth vehicular movement across the state, and the widening of intelligence-gathering channels ahead of the festivities.

The State Command also issued a set of security advisories to residents.

Members of the public were urged to avoid carrying suspicious or unnecessary objects to places of worship, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or items to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

On road safety, the police warned that underaged children and unlicensed persons are prohibited from operating motor vehicles, tricycles or motorcycles.

Road users were advised to desist from over-speeding, car racing and other forms of reckless or dangerous driving.

All forms of unauthorized horse riding have also been banned, while parents and guardians were advised to accompany their children when going out to prevent cases of missing children, accidents or other unwanted incidents.

The Command further announced a total ban on the use of fireworks and warned individuals or groups against any conduct capable of breaching public peace or causing a breakdown of law and order.

CP Bakori expressed appreciation to the people of Kano State for their continued support and cooperation, urging residents to sustain their partnership with the police by reporting any suspicious movement of persons or items to the nearest police station or via the following emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.

The Police Commamd wished residents Happy Christmas and New Year in advance.
