Kano State Police Command has organised a sensitisation walk against crime as part of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), reinforcing efforts to curb criminal activities across the state.
The initiative, carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to dominate public spaces and intensify preventive measures against crime nationwide.
According to a statement on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, POCACOV, a flagship community-oriented program of the Nigeria Police Force, is designed to promote preventive policing through public enlightenment, community engagement, and behavioural change, to address cultism, thuggery, drug abuse, violent crimes, and other social vices.
The sensitization walk was conducted by a combined team of police officers and civilian POCACOV members, who engaged residents in key public areas, including markets and motor parks.
The exercise aligned with CP Bakori’s emphasis on intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based policing strategies to enhance security and strengthen police–community collaboration.
The Police Command said the initiative underscores its commitment to proactive crime prevention, public safety, and building stronger partnerships with residents to foster a crime-free society in Kano State.
The Command also commended members of the public, community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders for their active participation and support for the campaign.
