Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has declared he can unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if he secures the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket.
Speaking during an X Spaces discussion on Saturday, the former Rivers State governor dismissed allegations of election rigging, saying he has never engaged in electoral malpractice and has repeatedly declined invitations to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) election planning committees.
“I’ve never contested against Tinubu, but I know his strengths and weaknesses. If I get the ADC ticket, I will defeat him,” Amaechi said, challenging any politician to produce evidence of his involvement in rigging. “I will apologise if there’s proof,” he added.
Amaechi accused some politicians of using governors and state resources to fund elections, vowing to expose such practices if chosen as his party’s candidate.
He promised to run a clean campaign and eliminate electoral fraud if elected.
He also acknowledged that Labour Party candidate Peter Obi won in Rivers State during the 2023 election, despite official results indicating otherwise.
In July, Amaechi had announced that he would serve only one term if elected president, to allow for a North-South power rotation in line with Nigeria’s political tradition.
