The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Thursday, received the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard M. Mills, Jr., at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Minister’s Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mati Ali, the courtesy visit underscored the shared commitment of both nations to deepen diplomatic and military cooperation in pursuit of regional peace and global security.
During the warm and forward-looking discussions, both leaders reaffirmed the long-standing Nigeria–U.S. partnership, rooted in mutual respect, strategic alignment, and a united resolve to counter emerging threats.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in counterterrorism, defence procurement, intelligence sharing, and military training.
The Minister commended the continued U.S. support, particularly in enhancing the capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
Both sides acknowledged the increasing complexity of security challenges in West Africa and pledged to pursue practical, coordinated solutions through existing bilateral frameworks and forthcoming high-level technical consultations.
The engagement, according to the statement, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises robust international partnerships to bolster Nigeria’s defence posture and regional leadership.
“As both nations look to the future, this meeting represents a renewed chapter in Nigeria–U.S. relations, built not only on strategy but also on shared values, trust, and the pursuit of lasting peace and stability,” the statement concluded.
