Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has disclosed that he has always trusted Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface to regain his goal-scoring form despite last week’s transfer saga to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
Recall that the Nigerian international netted a goal as Leverkusen defeated Hoffenheim 3-1 in Sunday’s Bundesliga game.
It was Boniface’s first start since returning from injury.
Reacting after the game, the Spanish tactician stated that it was important that he feel important again, feel the love of the fans.
“I always have trust. It was an important moment for him after his injury. The situation last week was a bit strange, unpleasant,” Alonso said.
“It was important that he felt important again, felt the love of the fans, that’s important for the mind.”
