Niger State Government has finalised arrangements and reaffirmed its full support for the Niger Flickers Hockey Team as they prepare for the 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League.
Governor Umaru Bago, popularly referred to as the “Farmer Governor,” received members of the team at the Niger State Governor’s Lodge, where he assured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring a strong and successful campaign in the upcoming competition.
According to Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor’s spokesperson, in a statement, Governor Bago reiterated his administration’s dedication to sports development across the state, urging the players to remain disciplined, focused, and hardworking, with the expectation that they would bring home the league trophy.
He further assured the team that the state government is ready to provide all necessary logistical and material support required to enhance their performance and competitiveness in the tournament.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission, Danjuma Masu, commended the governor for his consistent backing of sports development in the state.
He noted that the administration’s sustained investment and encouragement had significantly boosted the morale of athletes and sporting teams.
Masu expressed confidence that the Niger Flickers would rise to the occasion and compete strongly for the championship title.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Niger State Hockey Association, Danjuma Kolo, was part of the delegation that visited the governor and acknowledged the level of support extended to the team.
The Niger Flickers recently returned from Nairobi, Kenya, where they participated in the SIKH Union Centenary Competition, securing a bronze medal finish.
The team is set to compete alongside 14 other clubs at the 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League, scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 5, 2026, at the Package B Hockey Pitch of the National Stadium, Abuja.
