Prominent activist, Aisha Yesufu, has formally resigned her membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), aligning with the political movement of Peter Obi.

In a statement announcing her defection, Yesufu described the coming days as crucial in determining Nigeria’s future, noting that her decision was guided by a firm conviction about the country’s direction.

She explained that her earlier support for Obi influenced her initial move to the ADC.

However, she said her transition to the NDC was necessary to remain consistent with her political ideals, adding that the new platform better reflects the vision she believes in.

Beyond her defection, Yesufu also declared her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial seat under the NDC, marking her entry into elective politics.

The activist noted that she had concluded all her responsibilities within the ADC, describing her exit as a “clean transition.”

She expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in various leadership capacities within the party, including as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary.

According to her, the experience gained during her time in the ADC was invaluable, as she commended party members for their support and collaboration.

Her defection and declaration are expected to add a new dimension to the ongoing political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.
