Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has mourned the death of renowned filmmaker and Nollywood producer, Dimbo Atiya, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Nigeria, the creative industry and the numerous lives he impacted through his work.
In a condolence message on Friday, Mutfwang described Atiya as a towering figure in Nigeria’s film industry, a steadfast friend of Plateau State and an exceptional creative talent whose contributions helped advance the country’s entertainment sector.
He noted that Atiya, who won the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series, distinguished himself through excellence, innovation and a strong commitment to impactful storytelling.
According to Mutfwang, the late filmmaker was a reservoir of knowledge, creativity and inspiration who mentored and nurtured numerous young talents, many of whom have gone on to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s film industry.
He said Atiya’s death was particularly painful for the people of Plateau State, who maintained a longstanding relationship with the filmmaker through his numerous engagements and contributions to the state’s creative and cultural development.
The Governor described the deceased as a man of integrity, professionalism, visionary leadership and wisdom, while commending his dedication to youth development and his passion for identifying and nurturing emerging talents.
He said Atiya’s wealth of experience, sound counsel and commitment to the growth of the creative industry would be greatly missed by the creative community, Plateau State and the nation.
“His demise is tragic and heartbreaking. His contributions to the creative and cultural landscape of Plateau State and Nigeria will remain indelible,” the governor said.
Mutfwang, on behalf of his family, the Plateau State Government and the people of the state, extended his condolences to Atiya’s immediate family, colleagues in the Nigerian film industry, friends, associates and all those mourning his passing.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his family and all those affected by his death.
