Sokoto: Police Probe Alleged Killing of Girl After Gang-Rape in Wamakko

Sokoto State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged gang-rape and subsequent killing of a young woman, identified as late Fatima Bizo, aged 27, in Yarume village, Wamakko Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which has generated concern among residents of the community, reportedly occurred when the victim was allegedly sexually assaulted by a group of suspected youths.

Sources said the suspects allegedly killed the victim using rope to tight and strangle her to death after the assault, apparently to conceal the crime.

The suspected perpetrators were reportedly arrested by the police and are currently being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sokoto State Police Command, where they are undergoing investigation.

The remains of the victim, identified as Fatima Bizo, have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

The development has heightened calls for a thorough investigation and prosecution of anyone found culpable, while residents urged security agencies to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime are fully established.

The police are expected to provide further details on the investigation and the identities of the suspects as the case progresses.

The incident came amidst reports of continued gender based violence across the country.
