Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and creating a conducive environment for corps members deployed to the state to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The commitment was reaffirmed by the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the official opening of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II NYSC Orientation Course on Friday in Kano.
Declaring the orientation course open on behalf of the governor, Comrade Sumaila welcomed the newly deployed corps members to Kano State and urged them to uphold the ideals of discipline, patriotism, tolerance, and national unity throughout their service year.
Governor Yusuf described the NYSC scheme as an important national institution for promoting unity and fostering understanding among young Nigerians from diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.
He urged the corps members to actively participate in the various orientation activities designed to prepare them for the challenges and responsibilities of the service year.
The Governor also charged them to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, respect for constituted authority and a strong sense of responsibility, noting that their conduct would contribute to the success of the NYSC programme and the development of their host communities.
According to him, the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, would continue to collaborate with NYSC management and other relevant stakeholders to provide the necessary support for a successful service year.
Governor Yusuf further encouraged the corps members to see their deployment to Kano as an opportunity to learn about the state, build meaningful relationships, and contribute positively to its social and economic development.
The orientation course is expected to equip the corps members with the knowledge, skills and values required for their national service, while also exposing them to the cultural heritage and developmental opportunities in Kano State.
The event was attended by NYSC officials, including the State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abubakar Abdulkareem; Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori; Ibrahim Karaye, Magajin Garin Karaye and representative of the Emir of Karaye; Hon. Haruna Sufyan Karaye, Executive Chairman of Karaye Local Government, representatives of the local government, community leaders and other stakeholders.
At the completion of the orientation exercise, the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members are expected to proceed to their respective places of primary assignment, where they will commence their national service responsibilities.
