Sixteen people have been affected after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred at about 4:32 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Service said its Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one of its staff members, Aminu Sani Warure, reporting the building collapse.
The Fire Service said personnel from its headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they found a residential building measuring approximately 20 by 30 feet had collapsed.
Among those rescued alive were Al-Mustapha Yusuf, 15; Khadija Yusuf, seven; Ummusalama Yusuf, 10; Madina Yusuf, six; and Hafsat Yusuf, nine.
Eight other victims were also rescued, although their identities could not be immediately ascertained.
The Service said three other victims—five-year-old Affan Yusuf, seven-year-old Hassana Yusuf and nine-month-old Ummulkursum Yusuf—were rescued unconscious.
According to the statement, all the victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, the brother of their father, for further necessary attention.
The Fire Service said the cause of the collapse was still under investigation.
It urged residents to observe necessary safety precautions, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent similar building collapse incidents.
The Service also called on members of the public to promptly report emergencies to the appropriate authorities to facilitate timely rescue operations.
