The Kano State Police Command has successfully foiled a violent clash between suspected rival ‘Yan Daba groups in the Gyadi-Gyadi area, restoring calm and arresting six suspects in a swift operation that underscores ongoing efforts to curb thuggery and maintain public order.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, at about 1:20 p.m., was triggered by intelligence indicating that suspected thugs had mobilised for a confrontation.

Acting promptly on a distress call, police patrol teams were deployed to the scene, where they encountered an ongoing violent clash.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the hoodlums had already vandalised an ambulance and were attempting to extend their attacks to nearby locations before the arrival of security operatives.

“The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, resisted arrest and launched an attack on police officers using stones and other harmful objects,” the statement noted.

“However, the officers responded professionally and repelled the assault.”

The suspects reportedly fled toward the popular Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot goods.

Reinforcement teams were immediately dispatched, leading to the successful dispersal of the hoodlums and the arrest of six individuals linked to the disturbance.

The Police command confirmed that normalcy has since been restored in Gyadi-Gyadi and surrounding areas, with security presence reinforced to prevent a recurrence.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised their gallantry, restraint, and professionalism in containing the situation without further escalation.

He issued a stern warning to individuals and groups involved in thuggery, stressing that the Command would not tolerate any acts capable of breaching public peace in the state.

The Commissioner also urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in criminal activities.

The Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and uncover those sponsoring such violent acts.

Residents were encouraged to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to proactive policing and community safety, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police on strengthening visibility policing and rapid response to security threats.
