A Kano Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Halima Wali has sentenced a TikToker, Rabi’u Sani Zage, to two weeks of non-custodial punishment for defaming personnel of the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA).

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by KAROTA’s spokesperson, Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada.

Zage was found guilty of character defamation and other related offences arising from the production and publication of videos on TikTok, which contained injurious comments about KAROTA personnel and allegedly portrayed them in a negative light, exposing them to public ridicule.

Under the court’s order, the convict will serve the two-week sentence by clearing and sweeping the premises of KAROTA headquarters on Club Road, Kano, or performing any other form of labour considered appropriate by the agency.

The court also directed him to write an apology letter to the management of KAROTA, pledging not to engage in similar acts in the future.
