The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested a 30-year-old suspected transformer vandal, Abubakar Abdullahi, at Janguza in Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

NSCDC operatives reportedly arrested the suspect at about 3:30 a.m. at a security checkpoint along Gwarzo Road.

A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, said the suspect was apprehended after allegedly vandalising a transformer and concealing the stolen electrical components in a bag in an attempt to evade detection.

Items recovered from him include 16 metres of 300mm² armoured cable, six pieces of 300mm² cable, one pair of pliers, a screwdriver and a knife.

The statement added that the vandalised transformer components, including 25 litres of transformer oil, were estimated to be worth approximately N2 million.

According to the NSCDC, the suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime and is currently in the Corps’ custody for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.

The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure against vandalism and economic sabotage.

He warned individuals involved in the destruction of public infrastructure to desist from such criminal activities.

Agalama also urged members of the public to provide security agencies with credible, timely information to strengthen the protection of public utilities and essential services.
