The Kano State Government has commissioned a modern Quick Response Squad for the Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and illicit activities in the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who commissioned the facility, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reducing drug abuse in Kano to the barest minimum.

In a statement issued on Friday by Governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in the progress made so far, noting that drug abuse had significantly reduced in the state.

He commended the chairman and task force members for their dedication and commitment to fulfilling their mandate.

“I am the happiest man in Kano today as we continue to push drug abuse down to the barest minimum,” the governor declared.

He disclosed that individuals apprehended by the task force would be enrolled in skill acquisition and apprenticeship programs to equip them with productive means of livelihood and discourage them from returning to drug use or other illicit activities.

The governor, accompanied by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismaila Falgore, and other top government officials, inspected the newly commissioned facility during a guided tour.

Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by the task force within a short period and urged its members to sustain their commitment to tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the state.

The commissioning is part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and promote rehabilitation and productive engagement of individuals affected by drug abuse.
