The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to take greater responsibility in addressing insecurity and fostering national unity by embracing values-driven behaviour.

Speaking at the Bauchi Youth Security Summit, a Youth and Security Strategic Dialogue organised by NOA in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stressed that national development depends not only on government performance but also on the conduct of citizens.

Represented by the North-East Zonal Director, Malam Nuru Yusuf Kobi, the DG noted that the country’s security challenges cannot be resolved by the government alone, urging citizens to play an active role in safeguarding their communities.

The agency highlighted the National Values Charter (NVC) as a critical framework for national transformation, describing it as a social contract that promotes responsibility, accountability, and shared national values between the government and the people.

According to NOA, pressing national issues such as insecurity, corruption, and misinformation can be effectively addressed through attitudinal change and a renewed commitment to civic responsibility.

The agency also expressed concern over the rising spread of misinformation and the growing “get-rich-quick” mentality, particularly among young people. It urged youths to prioritize skills acquisition, hard work, and ethical conduct, and to use information responsibly.
