Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after suffering a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon on Sunday evening.
The West African rivals battled in a closely contested encounter, but Cameroon secured victory through a stunning free-kick from Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen in the 19th minute.
Nigeria, managed by Justine Madugu, pushed forward in search of an equaliser and a chance to force the match into extra time. However, the Super Falcons were unable to find the back of the net as Cameroon held on to secure a place in the semi-finals.
The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of defending the WAFCON title they won against Morocco in the previous edition.
The Super Falcons will now face South Africa in Casablanca on Thursday, with a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoff Tournament at stake.
