In a renewed push to halt the growing threats of kidnapping for ransom, cattle rustling and terrorist attacks, the Chairmen of Kebbe and Tambuwal Local Government Areas of Sokoto State have forged a joint security strategy to strengthen support for military operations across the two councils.
The council chairmen, Musa Garba Kuchi of Kebbe and Hon. Abba Shehu Tambuwal of Tambuwal, reached the decision during a joint security meeting held at the Tambuwal Local Government Secretariat, where they reviewed the security situation confronting communities in the two local government areas.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration with security agencies and providing the necessary logistical and operational support to troops working to contain criminal activities and restore peace to affected communities.
The Secretary of Kebbe Local Government, Alhaji Shamsudeen Umar Mai’akwai, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Sokoto on Thursday.
According to him, the meeting examined critical security concerns, particularly the rising threats posed by kidnappers, cattle rustlers and other criminal elements whose activities have continued to undermine the safety and livelihoods of rural residents.
Mai’akwai said the two chairmen agreed that sustained cooperation between local governments, security agencies and communities was essential to consolidating gains recorded in military operations and preventing criminals from regaining footholds in vulnerable communities.
He quoted the two chairmen as saying, “The security of our people remains our foremost responsibility. We will not relent in supporting the security agencies until the menace of kidnapping, cattle rustling and terrorist attacks is decisively brought under control.”
The chairmen also commended the military and other security personnel for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens despite the difficult terrain and security challenges confronting the area.
They equally acknowledged the efforts of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for providing moral and logistical support to security agencies in the ongoing battle against insecurity across the state.
The council leaders maintained that restoring peace in Kebbe and Tambuwal would have far-reaching implications for the people, particularly farmers, pastoralists, traders and other residents whose livelihoods have been affected by insecurity.
They stressed the need for continued vigilance, timely sharing of intelligence and stronger community-security cooperation to prevent criminal elements from exploiting remote communities and rural routes.
Mai’akwai said the strategic meeting was attended by the Secretaries of the two local governments, Hon. Shamsu Shamsudeen Umar Mai’akwai of Kebbe and Hon. Isah Marafa Kagara of Tambuwal.
The two chairmen, he added, reaffirmed their determination to continue providing the necessary support and logistics to security agencies until lasting peace and tranquillity are restored in Kebbe, Tambuwal and other affected parts of Sokoto State.
