Former Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include his name on the list of candidates for the 2027 Kano State governorship election.
Gwarzo, who is seeking the governorship ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), filed the suit over the omission of his name from the list of governorship candidates published by INEC.
Court documents identified Gwarzo as the plaintiff and INEC as the defendant, with the commission reportedly given seven days from the date of service to appear before the court.
The reasons for the omission of Gwarzo’s name from the list have not been fully disclosed, while the court’s response to his request remains unknown.
The omission reportedly prompted NDC leaders to stage a protest and submit a formal complaint to the electoral commission.
INEC subsequently gave candidates whose names were omitted from the list until October 24 to submit their complaints for consideration.
