The Community Rights Initiative of Nigeria (CORIN) has strengthened its partnership with the Kano State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to promote youth participation in public policy development and governance reforms.

The partnership was reinforced during an advocacy visit by CORIN to the ministry on Thursday under the CORIN–NYFF Youth4Policy Kano Project, which focuses on strengthening youth engagement in public policy and Open Government Partnership (OGP) reforms.

The CORIN delegation, led by Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma, was received by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Idris Lawan Shanono, alongside members of the ministry’s management team.

During the meeting, the delegation introduced the Youth4Policy Kano Project, supported by the Nigeria Youth Future Fund (NYFF), and outlined its objectives of strengthening youth leadership, promoting meaningful youth participation in policymaking and advancing transparency, accountability and open governance in Kano State.

CORIN also highlighted the importance of evidence-based advocacy in ensuring that public policies reflect citizens’ needs and that young people have opportunities to contribute to decisions affecting their lives.

The Permanent Secretary and the ministry’s management team welcomed the initiative and expressed their willingness to collaborate with CORIN towards achieving the project’s objectives.

The proposed collaboration is expected to create opportunities for young people to engage constructively with government institutions, participate in policy discussions, monitor public service delivery, and advocate for responsive and accountable governance.

Through the Youth4Policy Kano Project, CORIN seeks to equip young people with the knowledge and skills required to participate effectively in governance processes and contribute to policy reforms.

The initiative also aims to strengthen institutional partnerships that will enable young people to play more active roles in public affairs rather than remain mere beneficiaries of government policies.

CORIN expressed appreciation to Shanono and the ministry’s management team for their reception and willingness to collaborate, while acknowledging the support of the Nigeria Youth Future Fund in making the project possible.

The organization reiterated its commitment to promoting youth inclusion in governance and building a system in which young people actively participate in shaping policies and reforms that affect their communities.
