The Federal Government has commissioned four transmission substations in Kano State, adding 544MW of transmission capacity to improve electricity supply to industrial, commercial and residential areas.
The projects, executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria in partnership with the Kano State Government, are located in Walalambe, Kumbotso, Dakata and Dan-Agundi.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Power, Adeola Labzy, the facilities are expected to ease pressure on overloaded substations, improve electricity distribution and meet previously unmet demand.
The statement added that the projects would strengthen power supply to businesses and households, while supporting industrial growth, job creation and economic activities.
It also disclosed that Lee Group, a major industrial company, had been reconnected to the national grid after operating off-grid for more than 30 years.
The upgrade at Dan-Agundi is particularly significant as it restores capacity following a fire that damaged the substation, improving electricity supply to Kano’s ancient town, the Emir’s Palace and surrounding communities.
The ministry said the projects aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen the power sector and support national development.
