Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the merger of the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change into a single entity to strengthen governance and improve coordination across related sectors.
The newly established Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change will oversee water management, environmental protection and climate resilience under one administrative framework.
Announcing the development on Monday, the Commissioner, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, expressed appreciation to the governor for entrusting him with the leadership of the integrated ministry.
He said the decision underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and ensuring effective service delivery.
“I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me to lead this newly integrated ministry and drive the realization of its mandate in service to the people of Kano State,” Dr. Hashim said in a statement.
He acknowledged the challenges involved in merging two key ministries with distinct but interconnected responsibilities but assured residents that efforts were underway to ensure a smooth transition.
“Bringing together two vital sectors with distinct but interconnected mandates requires commitment, coordination and hard work,” he said.
Dr. Hashim noted that the ministry is prepared to undertake the task and will focus on improving service delivery while advancing its core objectives.
He emphasized that environmental sustainability, climate resilience and effective water resource management would remain top priorities.
According to him, the ministry’s operations will align with the development agenda of Governor Yusuf’s administration, with renewed efforts to tackle environmental challenges and improve access to sustainable water resources across Kano State.
