A high-powered joint delegation has visited the management of Pyramid FM in solidarity with the station following a recent attack on journalists in Kano State.
The delegation was led by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General of Media and Communications, who clarified that the incident occurred as the journalists’ vehicle was leaving the event venue.
Dawakin Tofa said the attack did not occur within the event perimeter, where tight security measures were in place, contrary to some reports.
He stressed that the clarification was intended to establish the facts and ensure accurate reporting, rather than to defend or favour the Kano State Government.
According to him, the large presence of social media users and conventional media organisations at the event made it important to accurately establish what transpired.
Dawakin Tofa also highlighted efforts by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to address security challenges, including the establishment of a committee to combat illicit drug use and substance abuse in the state.
Responding on behalf of the station’s Managing Director, Umar Nuhu, Head of Administration, appreciated the delegation and members of the public for their solidarity.
He reaffirmed Pyramid FM’s commitment to collaborating with the Kano State Government and other stakeholders to promote peace, security and development in the state.
Also speaking, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, offered prayers for those affected and called for stronger measures to protect journalists and other media professionals across the state.
