The Sudanese government expressed interest in sending its military personnel to Indonesia for further training as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.
This was conveyed during a meeting between Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Sudanese Defense Minister Hassan Daoud Kabroun Kayan at the Ministry of Defense Office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Head of the Information Bureau of the Indonesian Defense Ministry’s Secretariat General, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, said the two ministers discussed several cooperation opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
“During the meeting, the two Defense Ministers discussed cooperation opportunities that could benefit both countries, particularly in the defense sector,” Sirait remarked after the meeting.
He outlined that the discussions covered human resource capacity building, education and training, personnel and cadet exchanges, and developing cooperation between defense educational institutions.
“Sudan, among other things, expressed interest in reopening opportunities for its personnel to participate in education in Indonesia,” Sirait added.
Meanwhile, Minister Hassan noted that his visit to Indonesia aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the defense sector.
“Our visit aims to establish cooperation in various fields, particularly in the defense sector,” Hassan said through an interpreter.
He mentioned that the long-standing friendship between Indonesia and Sudan continues to create opportunities for developing strategic joint programs.
According to him, the close ties between the two countries are also strengthened by shared similarities and people-to-people connections.
Sudan has provided Indonesian citizens with opportunities to pursue studies at the International University of Africa in Sudan.
The minister also expressed hope that stronger bilateral cooperation would bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
He added that Sudan seeks to learn from Indonesia’s experience and capabilities and adapt them to meet its own needs.
The meeting between the two ministers took place in a warm atmosphere as part of efforts to strengthen communication and the friendly relationship between Indonesia and Sudan, which has existed since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960.
Previously, Minister Sjafrie received a visit from the Sudanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yassir Mohamed Ali, on 21 April 2026, when they discussed opportunities for cooperation in defense, military technology, and improving the quality of human resources.
