The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved 13 senior management appointments and 10 special promotions as part of a broad restructuring aimed at strengthening leadership and enhancing operational efficiency across the Service.
The approvals were made at the Board’s 64th Regular Meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. The Board said the appointments comply with statutory guidelines and reflect the Federal Character provisions in the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
Five officers were confirmed as Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs): Baba Imam (North-East), Isah Umar (North-West), Tijjani Abe (North-West), Timi Bomodi (South-South), and Oluyomi Adebakin (South-West). Their elevation follows recent retirements in the top ranks and is expected to bolster strategic leadership.
Eight officers were also named Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs), including C.G. Ogbonna (South-East), I. Abba-Aji (North-East), G.M. Haruna (South-South), E.J. Edelduok (South-South), G. Gaura (North-West), I. Isyaku (North-West), M.S. Shuaibu (North-Central), and M.D. Malah (North-East).
The Board further approved special promotions for 10 officers recognized for outstanding professionalism and contributions to national revenue and security. Promoted to Comptroller were A.C. Fanyam and G.M. Shidali, while five others—S. Omofoma, O.A. Oladepo, A.Y. Musa, A. Ogboru, and A.A. Maiwada—were elevated to Deputy Comptroller. C.N. Essien and H. Aliyu were promoted to Assistant Comptroller, and A.S. Shofadekan advanced to Deputy Superintendent of Customs.
The NCSB said the changes reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen succession planning, boost staff morale, and ensure the Service remains capable of responding to evolving trade and security challenges.
