The Zamfara State chapter of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANM) has resumed a six-day warning strike across state-owned hospitals over the government’s failure to implement the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The union’s chairman, Sani Shehu, said the action follows months of unheeded appeals to the state government. He explained that while doctors in the state were migrated to the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in June, other health workers under CONHESS were excluded.

“Shehu noted that despite several follow-ups up to August, the government has yet to address the issue,” the statement read.

The fresh action stems from a seven-day warning strike declared on September 11, which was suspended after 24 hours following government intervention. Shehu said the current strike represents the remaining six days of that suspended action and will run from Saturday to Tuesday.

He warned that if the government fails to respond after the warning strike, the union will embark on an indefinite industrial action.
