Kano Targets Top Spot In Voter Registration As Governor Yusuf Meets Task Force

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received briefings on the activities of the recently inaugurated Task Force on Mobilization for Voter Registration on Sunday at Government House, Kano.

While expressing confidence in the task force’s progress, the Governor stated that Kano is committed to taking its rightful position as a state with the highest number of registered voters in the country.

The Governor urged the task force members to sustain their momentum, by ensuring that all eligible citizens in the State register and obtain their voter cards.

He noted that the task force was deliberately established as part of his administration’s unrelenting efforts to strengthen democracy through enhanced civic participation in the electoral processes.

Governor Yusuf assured the committee of his support in undertaking its assignment.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam informed the Governor that he had discussions with the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, to assess the level of their preparedness to ensure that, the exercise runs smoothly without any hitch, and assured INEC of the government readiness to provide the enabling environment to achieve the needed success throughout the registration exercise, and ensure that all eligible citizens got registered

Task Force Chairman and Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, briefed the Governor on the committee’s activities within the two-weeks of it’s inauguration.

He revealed that the task paid a support Mobilization visit to INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, with a view to establish a cordial working relationship, and ensure that, no eligible citizen in Kano is left out of the registration process, regardless of party affiliation or social background

Waiya highlighted the committee’s engagements with stakeholders, including Kungiyar Mawallafa, who were sensitized on their critical role in mobilizing people to participate in the voter registration exercise.

Civil Society Organizations were also engaged and tasked to deploy their expertise to enlighten citizens on their civic responsibility to participate in the voter registration exercise.

Furthermore, Waiya said the committee met with Local Government Chairmen and Councillors, who pledged to support the recruitment of volunteers to assist with online registration in the 484 wards across the state.

He emphasized that the mobilization effort is driven by patriotism and a commitment to the state’s development.
