Ethiopia has been experiencing armed conflict for most of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Administration. The 2020-2022 conflict between the TPLF-led Tigray regional government and Abiy Ahmed-led Federal government is said to have claimed up to one million lives, unprecedented in the history of the country.
In the Amhara region, there has been an active armed conflict between the Fano Forces and the Federal government as the latter attempted to disarm them.
When the federal government declared the operation in August 2023, it was intended to last within a “few weeks.”
However, the war is still raging. Thousands of civilians have been according to reports from credible human rights organizations.
The Oromia region of Ethiopia has been experiencing conflict for over six years now. The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) forces have been battling the regional and federal government.
This armed group has also been linked to the massacre of tens of thousands of ethnic Amhara populations in the region.
