The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in all 20 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State where results of the local government election have so far been declared.

The exercise is yet to be concluded in Numan Local Government Area, where voting is taking place on Monday following the postponement of the poll from the June 13 council elections conducted across the rest of the state.

The outcome marks a significant showing for the PDP despite the fact that Adamawa is currently governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The election was conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), which is expected to conclude the process after the Numan Local Government poll.

Political observers, however, note that preparations for the council elections had been concluded before Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s defection from the PDP to the APC on February 27.

Although many of the governor’s loyalists joined him in the APC, several incumbent council chairmen who had earlier secured PDP endorsements for second terms remained with the opposition party and contested under its platform.

Other political parties participated in the election but failed to mount a serious challenge to the PDP’s dominance across the councils where results have been announced.

Reacting to the outcome, the PDP’s 2027 governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, congratulated the newly elected council chairmen, describing the victory as evidence of the party’s enduring popularity among voters in the state.

Among those elected is Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, who won the chairmanship seat of Yola North Local Government Area.
