The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East region of the country.
NCDC disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, saying both individuals had been isolated while contact identification and listing were ongoing.
It added that laboratory tests were being conducted to determine whether the suspected cases were Ebola infections.
The NCDC stressed that the classification of the individuals as suspected cases did not mean they had tested positive for the disease, noting that confirmation would depend on laboratory results.
The agency urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practice enhanced sanitation and adhere to public health guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.
It assured the public that further updates would be provided as verified information became available.
The latest development comes days after the NCDC announced the identification of another contact, an e-hailing driver, linked to Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola case, bringing the number of primary contacts to 54.
