The International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) has urged the Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, to facilitate reconciliation between rival factions of the Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

IPSS appealed, while congratulating Comrade Waiya on his redeployment from the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

In a congratulatory message signed by its Director-General, Dr Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, IPSS described Comrade Waiya’s appointment as recognition of his dedication, leadership qualities and contributions to the development of Kano State.

IPSS noted that Waiya was among those who successfully transitioned from the civil society space into public service, adding that his experience in activism had continued to translate into impactful governance.

It expressed confidence that his wealth of experience, commitment to public service and passion for development would bring innovative ideas and meaningful opportunities to the youth and sports sector.

IPSS, however, urged the commissioner to use his position to reunite the Kano civil society community by helping end the lingering disagreements and court case involving KCSF factions.

The organization said it had previously played a role in bridging the divisions within the Kano civil society community and reconnecting some of its members with the commissioner.

It described the resolution of the dispute through ADR as an opportunity for Waiya to make a lasting contribution to the state’s civil society sector.

“Ending this misunderstanding will make history and you will be remembered for good,” the IPSS said.

IPSS also advised the commissioner to surround himself with competent, results-oriented individuals who could help him deliver meaningful development, rather than those who rely on noise, falsehood, and the condemnation of others to gain proximity to government.

It further urged him to maintain close connections with ordinary residents and ensure that those around him serve as a bridge between the government and the people.

“Surround yourself with people who connect you with the people, not those who distance you from the people,” the statement added.

IPSS reaffirmed its support for the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and its development agenda, while wishing Waiya a successful and impactful tenure in his new ministry.
