Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held captive by bandits, describing the development as a tragic loss to the state and the nation.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.

The statement noted that despite sustained efforts by the Katsina State Government and security agencies to secure his release, the operation ended in tragedy.

According to the government, the late General’s abduction and subsequent death represent a significant loss not only to his immediate family and Katsina State but also to Nigeria as a whole.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the nation at large.

The governor described the death as a “dark moment” and a stark reminder of the growing security challenges confronting communities across the country.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.

Governor Radda reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice.

He also assured residents that the administration remains resolute in its determination to combat banditry and safeguard lives and property across the state.

The government called on citizens to remain united and supportive of ongoing security efforts, while offering prayers for the repose of the late General’s soul and strength for his family during the period of mourning.

The death of the retired military officer has further highlighted the persistent security concerns in parts of Katsina State and renewed calls for intensified action against armed criminal groups operating in the region.
