As Governor Ahmed Aliyu marks his second year in office, Sokoto State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Dadi Adire (Dallatun Gobir), has praised the administration’s track record of “unprecedented progress and purposeful leadership.”

Addressing journalists during activities to commemorate the second anniversary, Adire described the past two years as a transformative period for Sokoto State.

He credited Governor Aliyu’s commitment to good governance, grassroots development, and inclusive growth for the sweeping reforms witnessed across key sectors.

“The landscape of Sokoto has changed for the better,” the Commissioner said, noting that the administration has completed impactful infrastructure projects, including roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, in every local government area, underscoring its drive for equitable development.

In the education sector, Adire highlighted significant interventions such as the recruitment of qualified teachers, the provision of learning materials, and the rehabilitation of dilapidated school buildings.

He stressed that the administration is laying a solid educational foundation for the future.

Healthcare has also seen notable improvements.

According to Adire, numerous primary health centres and general hospitals have been renovated and fully equipped, making quality healthcare more accessible to citizens across the state.

To combat youth unemployment and stimulate economic growth, the Commissioner cited the rollout of empowerment programs, including vocational training, microfinance schemes, and job placements, all aimed at fostering self-reliance and productivity among young people.

Security, he noted, remains a top priority. Through partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies, the state has maintained relative peace and stability under Governor Aliyu’s watch.

Adire commended reforms in local government administration, pointing to improved revenue generation, capacity-building initiatives, and systems that have enhanced transparency and accountability at the grassroots.

He also backed the recent decision by the State Assembly to extend the tenure of elected local government councils from two to three years, a move he described as practical and necessary for continuity and effective governance.

“This is not a political move; it is about ensuring councils have enough time to deliver results aligned with the Governor’s nine-point SMART agenda,” he said.

The Commissioner lauded the legislature for its foresight, stating that the extension would strengthen local democracy and deepen public confidence in governance.

He reaffirmed that Governor Aliyu remains committed to fulfilling his campaign promises, driven by a vision to position Sokoto as a model of sustainable development and prosperity.

Calling for continued support from citizens, civil society groups, traditional institutions, and the media, Adire expressed optimism about Sokoto’s future.

“With unity, commitment, and shared purpose, Sokoto will continue to rise among Nigeria’s leading states.”

He offered prayers for the Governor and the state’s continued progress.
