Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to forging a strong partnership with the Brazilian government to advance agriculture and livestock development in the state.
He gave this assurance on Monday while receiving a high-level delegation from Brazil led by the country’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Cleber Oleviera, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris praised Brazil’s remarkable economic progress, attributing it to the country’s unwavering focus on agricultural development.
He noted that Kebbi State intends to draw inspiration from Brazil’s agricultural success story, particularly in the area of livestock management.
“Kebbi remains the rice capital of Africa,” the governor declared, highlighting the state’s leading role in rice production.
He added that delegations from across the continent continue to visit Kebbi to study its rice farming model, to replicate its achievements.
In his remarks, Mr. Cleber Oleviera explained that their visit was at the instance of the Brazilian Federal Government, with a mandate to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi State.
He applauded Governor Idris for the developmental strides recorded across the state, stating:
“The Brazilian Government is ready to partner with Kebbi State in the development of agriculture and livestock.”
Also speaking during the event, Mr. Tope Kolade, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters in the Office of the Vice President, commended the Kebbi State Government for its robust support of the agricultural sector, which he described as a key driver of the state’s economic growth.
Earlier, Chairman of Tropical General Investment Group (WACOT), Mr. Faruk Gumel, lauded Governor Idris for his forward-looking investment initiatives.
He noted that Brazil’s agricultural transformation took two decades and emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Brazil and Nigeria.
He concluded by reaffirming the Federal Government’s recognition of Kebbi State’s outstanding contributions to agricultural and livestock development.
