The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has announced plans to roll out free Wi-Fi services across strategic locations in the district, in a move aimed at empowering young people and strengthening digital participation.

The lawmaker disclosed a recent visit to Idah in Kogi East, where she joined leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to welcome new members into the party.

Speaking on the initiative, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the idea was inspired by a similar proposal raised during the visit, stressing that access to reliable internet has become a key driver of job creation and youth engagement in today’s digital economy.

She noted that providing free internet access would particularly benefit content creators, entrepreneurs, and young innovators who rely heavily on connectivity to grow their businesses and reach wider audiences.

“I found the idea compelling because it is critical to job creation for our youths,” she said, adding that Kogi Central would adopt the initiative in the spirit of collaboration and development.

The senator disclosed that discussions with internet service providers would begin immediately, with plans underway to identify suitable locations for installation and ensure a smooth rollout of the project.

She also called for stronger cooperation among the three senatorial districts, Central, East, and West, emphasizing the need for unity over rivalry in advancing the state’s development agenda.

“This is about forward-thinking leadership and smart collaboration, not unhealthy competition,” she stated.

The proposed free Wi-Fi scheme is expected to unlock new opportunities for youths in Kogi Central, particularly in digital entrepreneurship, social media engagement, and content creation, by providing accessible and cost-free internet services.

Analysts say the initiative reflects a growing awareness among Nigerian leaders of the critical role digital connectivity plays in economic growth and youth empowerment.
