The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious thug, Abubakar Isma’il, popularly known as ‘Sankolo’, following the earlier arrest of another wanted suspect, Umar Usman, alias ‘Ta’ambo’, in Rimin Kebbe and its environs.
The arrest, according to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, was carried out by operatives of the Zango Police Division on 6 November 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., under the Command’s Operation Kukan Kura.
CSP Kiyawa said the arrest followed discreet investigations and actionable intelligence obtained after the arrest of ‘Ta’ambo’ on 5 November 2026.
He identified the latest suspect as a 22-year-old resident of Rimin Kebbe Quarters, Kano, who was allegedly on the Command’s wanted list as a leading figure in thuggery-related activities in the area.
The police also linked him to a kidnapping case involving a nine-year-old boy, Ubaidu Sammani, son of Alhaji Sammani of Rimin Kebbe, who was allegedly abducted on July 3, 2026.
According to the statement, some of the suspect’s alleged accomplices have already been charged to court, with their trial ongoing.
CSP Kiyawa disclosed that preliminary investigations showed that the suspect confessed to involvement in several cases of thuggery and mobile phone robbery in Rimin Kebbe and neighbouring communities.
He allegedly coordinated attacks, intimidation of residents and the snatching of mobile phones and other valuables.
CSP Kiyawa said residents and community leaders had welcomed the arrest as a major breakthrough, expressing hope that it would help end criminal activities in the area.
He added that the suspect remained in police custody, while investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the alleged gang, recover stolen property and weapons, and establish his possible involvement in other criminal cases.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers of the Zango Police Division for their professionalism, vigilance and prompt action.
He also appreciated members of the public for providing credible information and supporting police operations.
The Command reiterated its commitment to tackling thuggery, phone snatching, kidnapping, attacks on security personnel and other violent crimes across Kano State.
It urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
