Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has unveiled the 2025–2030 Local Government Development Plans for the state’s 27 Local Government Areas, directing all councils to adopt the documents as the foundation for budgeting, project implementation, and governance.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held on Monday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Dutse, the governor said the initiative marks a significant step toward institutionalising evidence-based, people-centred development planning at the grassroots.

Namadi stressed that the effectiveness of the plans would be judged by their implementation and the impact they have on the lives of citizens.

“The true test of these plans will be our commitment to their implementation,” he said. “Improved service delivery, impactful capital investments, and visible improvements in the well-being of our people will measure success.

These plans must not sit on shelves; they must guide every decision, resource allocation, and accountability process.”

He explained that the development plans represent a deliberate effort to revive, modernise, and institutionalise strategic planning at the local government level, noting that previous initiatives, including the Local Government Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LEEDS), were weakened by poor integration with annual budgets and a lack of institutional discipline.

According to the governor, each of the 27 LGAs now has a comprehensive, participatory, and forward-looking roadmap to guide priorities, investments, and service delivery over the next five years.

Namadi added that the plans were developed through extensive public consultations and aligned with his administration’s 12-Point Agenda, the Jigawa State Comprehensive Development Framework, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Ibrahim Garba, described the initiative as a landmark achievement, saying the plans were produced through broad consultations involving government agencies, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, women, youths, persons with disabilities, and development partners.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Jigawa State Chapter, Sibu Abdullahi, assured that all 27 local government chairmen would faithfully implement the framework in planning, budgeting, and project execution.
