The Jigawa State Police Command has presented cheques totalling N25.96 million to the families and next of kin of 25 police officers who died while in active service.
The cheques were presented on Monday, at the Command Headquarters in Dutse by the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Command’s spokesperson, in a statement, said the beneficiaries received a cumulative sum of N25,960,848.75, representing benefits under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
The ceremony was witnessed by members of the Command Management Team and other senior police officers.
Speaking at the event, Murtala conveyed the sympathy, solidarity and support of the IGP and the entire police leadership to the bereaved families.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the deceased officers in the course of their service to the nation, noting that no financial compensation could replace their lives or completely ease the pain of their loss.
The commissioner said the gesture demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
He assured the beneficiaries that the Force would continue to support families of deceased personnel through available welfare schemes and mechanisms, while ensuring that the sacrifices of the fallen officers remained honoured and remembered.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Muhd Tsoho expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Jigawa Commissioner of Police for remembering the families of officers who lost their lives while serving the nation.
Tsoho described the presentation as a significant demonstration of institutional responsibility and concern for the welfare of the families left behind by the deceased officers.
The ceremony ended with special prayers for the peaceful repose of the souls of the fallen officers and continued strength and support for their families.
The Jigawa State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Tijjani Murtala, reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the welfare of its personnel while maintaining professionalism and dedication to service.
