The Kano State Ministry of Health has reaffirmed the critical role of the media in promoting Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) as well as Primary Health Care (PHC) services across the state.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting on strengthening media advocacy for RMNCAH and PHC in Kano, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, described the media as one of the Ministry’s most important partners in disseminating health information and creating public awareness on health-related issues.

He noted that through radio, television, newspapers, and online platforms, vital health information is communicated to the public in a simple and understandable manner, thereby encouraging the utilization of healthcare services and promoting positive health-seeking behaviours among communities.

According to him, the Ministry of Health has continued to maintain a strong working relationship with journalists and media organizations in the state, leading to successful health campaigns, advocacy activities, press briefings, and public enlightenment programmes aimed at improving health outcomes.

Nabilusi further stated that the media plays a significant role in strengthening coordination among stakeholders and supporting collective efforts towards improving maternal and child health, gender-responsive healthcare services, and stronger primary healthcare systems throughout Kano State.

Drawing from his previous experience working with various media organizations before joining the public service, he acknowledged the dedication of journalists in informing, educating, and mobilizing the public on issues affecting community health and development.

He emphasized that journalists serve as a vital bridge between government, health professionals, development partners, and communities, helping to ensure that accurate and timely information reaches the people.

The Ministry’s spokesperson called for sustained collaboration, information sharing, and support for advocacy initiatives among Public Relations Officers, health reporters, and other stakeholders to further advance RMNCAH and PHC programmes in the state.

He also commended the organizers for convening the meeting, describing it as a timely initiative that will strengthen the partnership between Public Relations Officers and Kano Health Reporters in promoting health advocacy and improving the well-being of women, children, adolescents, and families across Kano State.
