The Kano State Police Command has received a delegation from the National Peace Committee, through the Secretariat of The Kukah Centre, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote peaceful conduct of the 2027 General Elections.
The delegation, led by Mr Esrom Ajanya, Senior Program Manager at The Kukah Centre and Secretariat of the National Peace Committee, paid a courtesy visit to the command; CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Ajanya said the engagement was part of the committee’s preparations for the 2027 elections and its broader efforts to engage critical stakeholders across the country.
He said the consultations were aimed at assessing the prevailing electoral and security situation, identifying emerging concerns and opportunities, and developing interventions capable of promoting peaceful elections.
“We are here to discuss the electoral and security landscape in Kano State, address emerging concerns, and explore collaborative opportunities that will strengthen peace and contribute to the peaceful conduct of the 2027 General Elections,” Ajanya said.
The delegation commended the Kano State Police Command for what it described as its professionalism, proactive policing strategies and sustained efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, described the visit as timely and significant, stressing that peace must remain the priority before, during and after the elections.
“Your coming is apt. What we need first is peace. We are well prepared for the elections, and we call on the good people of Kano State to shun any act that may disrupt the peace during the forthcoming elections,” Bakori said.
The Commissioner assured the delegation that the command was ready to work with relevant stakeholders, including other security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other critical partners, to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the successful conduct of the 2027 elections.
Bakori disclosed that the command had commenced training of personnel on election security and was strengthening engagements with political stakeholders, while also intensifying public enlightenment and sensitisation campaigns.
He added that the command was advancing its intelligence-gathering mechanisms as part of preparations to effectively respond to potential security threats before, during and after the elections.
The Kano State Police Command appreciated the National Peace Committee for the engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to continuous dialogue, collaboration and community engagement as key measures for sustaining peace, public safety and security throughout the electoral period.
