Egypt has condemned in the strongest terms Israel’s seizure of the buffer zone with Syria, saying the move constitutes an occupation of Syrian lands in flagrant violation of its sovereignty, and a clear breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration on Monday, Egypt said Israel’s practices violate international law and the unity and integrity of Syrian lands.
“This constitutes an exploitation of the state of fluidity and vacuum in Syria to occupy more Syrian territories and impose a new fait accompli on the ground in violation of international law,” the statement read.
“Egypt calls on the UN Security Council and international powers to assume their responsibilities and take a firm stance against the Israeli attacks on Syria, in a manner that guarantees its sovereignty over all its territories.”
