Jigawa State Government has commenced a free animal vaccination exercise following the commissioning of an ultra-modern veterinary clinic in Malam Madori Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Salim Abdulrahman, flagged off the vaccination exercise, saying the initiative was aimed at improving livestock health and boosting animal production across the state.
Abdulrahman said the state government, through the Ministry of Livestock Development, had equipped the newly commissioned clinic with essential drugs and vaccines to enhance the health and productivity of domestic animals.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Salisu Abdullahi, also participated in the exercise, which targeted ruminants and other domestic animals, including cattle, goats, sheep, dogs and poultry.
He said the ministry had provided sufficient vaccines and drugs to treat and protect more than 5,000 animals against various diseases.
The Zonal Veterinary Officer, Dr Haruna Abubakar, pledged maximum support and cooperation to ensure the effective and sustainable operation of the veterinary clinic.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Malam Madori Local Government Area, Salisu Sani Garungabas, pledged to continue supporting Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda to ensure residents benefit from the dividends of democracy.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah/Kautal Haure, Hussain Adamu Isah, commended the administration of Governor Namadi and the Malam Madori council chairman for including herders in government programmes and activities.
He urged the government to sustain initiatives that support livestock farmers and improve the welfare and productivity of the state’s animal-rearing communities.
