Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has sworn in seven newly appointed commissioners, charging them to uphold integrity, accountability and public interest in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The swearing-in ceremony, held on Friday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House, Makurdi, saw Governor Alia remind the new commissioners that their appointments were not merely an elevation to public office but a call to service and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development and prosperity of Benue State.

The Governor urged the commissioners to recognise the weight of the responsibilities entrusted to them, stressing that the oath of office they took was not to serve themselves or any particular interest group, but the people of Benue State.

“Let me equally remind you that public office is temporary, but the legacies you create through your service can endure for generations,” he said.

Alia also charged the commissioners to remain accessible to the people, listen to their concerns and regularly visit communities to understand the realities on the ground rather than relying solely on official reports.

He further urged them to promote teamwork and collaboration among ministries, particularly in areas where their responsibilities overlap.

“I expect you to communicate, cooperate and share ideas.

“Where one ministry needs the support of another, provide it.

“Where responsibilities overlap, work together,” the Governor said.

While assuring the new commissioners of his support and cooperation, Alia urged them to work collectively towards building a Benue State where the impact of good governance is felt not only in government offices but also in the daily lives of citizens.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in commissioners, Rt. Hon. Nick Eworo thanked Governor Alia for entrusting them with the responsibility of serving the people of the state.

Eworo pledged that the commissioners would discharge their duties diligently and uphold fairness, accountability and transparency in their respective offices.

The seven commissioners sworn in are Hon. Kuma Aii Yenge, Hon. Roy Ashirga Terna, Hon. Angwa Egbe Monday, Hon. Elizabeth Onma Ogenyi, Hon. Solomon Iorpev, Hon. Nick Eworo and Hon. Ankwa Amo.

Governor Alia also swore in Hon. Godwin Anya as a member of the Benue State Assembly Service Commission.

In addition, the Governor inaugurated the Chairman of Benue Television, Rev. Fr. Patrick Tor Alumuku, alongside other members of the television station’s board.
